Director (Corporate Development)'s participation in Accenture's HerStories conversations

Ms Yang Wen, Director (Corporate Development), participated in Accenture’s HerStories human conversations as a panellist, together with other women leaders from across industries in APAC on 7 April 2022.

Centred around the theme of "Life in Balance – Mental Wellness", the panellists shared how they cultivate and lead in an inclusive environment and promote a healthy life-work balance in the organisation.

Tips from D(CD) on Life-Work Balance and Mental Wellness

1. Understanding and accepting trade-offs, and not being engulfed by guilt

Find your rhythm, down time, and accept trade-offs. For example, caring for sick children could mean less time for work or saying no to drinks with friends; attending an important meeting could mean missing child’s show and tell.

2. Integrating the different roles to multiply your time

Your different roles at home, at work and in society could reinforce one another and allow you to multiply your time. At VITAL, hybrid work arrangement allows us to better integrate family time into work. For example, working from home would give the children some understanding of what mummy/daddy actually does.

3. Disciplined about deprioritisation and dropping work

VITAL senior management’s role modelling for "reductionism" at work would make pursuing life-work balance possible. Their interest to know the staff and hear their stories would also create a psychologically safe environment and a workplace culture that respects and values balance.
